Gary Modh opened Taber Gaming Center on December 22, 2023. As someone who has children and a family, he felt a space like this would be nice for the community to enjoy.
The 2,500 square foot space has many games to play, from racing, to bowling, and so much more.
Modh also owns the Dairy Queen in Taber, which pairs well with Taber Gaming Center. After families spend time playing games, they can go for ice cream to finish the day.
“We usually traveled to Medicine Hat and Lethbridge to play, so it was a good opportunity to open a gaming center in Taber. It’s a great way to spend time with family,” says Modh.
Modh met Alvaro Mendes, the business analyst with Community Futures Chinook, at a Town of Taber meeting, and from there they had a good connection.
“When I started Taber Gaming Center, Alvaro helped me out from top to bottom, from the business plan, to how to apply for the Beautification Loan,” says Modh.
The business owner then found out about the Digital Service Squad program through the Community Futures Chinook website.
Grace Evans, Digital Service Squad member supported Modh in building his website and getting a Facebook page set up for the new business.“The support has been great. Grace helped me a lot, and communication was easy. All I would do is email her, and she would help me. I was worried about the website and social media, but after I found this support, I was relaxed,” says Modh.
Owning Dairy Queen before Taber Gaming Center, Modh has gotten to know the community, and the community has gotten to know him. He is looking forward to offering this new space to the town, and has room to book birthday parties.
“Community Futures Chinook helps small businesses for everything, from loans, to marketing, and business plans. It’s a really good organization,” says Modh.
“Taber Gaming Center is for all ages, where people can enjoy a memorable experience.”
