Wes Horvath opened Wes’ Country Meats and Sausage over 15 years ago in Fernie, British Columbia. When he moved his business to Taber, Alberta, he invited Thoralee Ford to manage the butchery in 2019.
Ford recently started to notice customers asking if there were social media pages or a website for the butchery. Ford saw there was an interest, but she didn’t know how to set them up, so she reached out to Community Futures Chinook and was introduced to Grace Evans from Digital Service Squad.
“Community Futures is here to help businesses, so we reached out,” says Ford. “Grace was great. She took the leap right away. She’s very educated, knows her job well, and she was really easy to work with. She implemented Wes’ ideas, my ideas, and her ideas, and she just knew exactly how to put it all together.”
Ford and Horvath have already started to spread the word about their website and Facebook page and are excited to share with the community their website and social media when asked about it.
“A lot of people are checking us out now. The page and website show our address, phone number, and business hours — it gives us a good boost for business with people finding out about us through those pages,” says Ford. “It worked out really well. It didn’t even take Grace that long to finish, and it was great to have her come along and help us with this.”
Ford comes from a second generation butcher family, and Horvath has owned Wes’ Country Meats and Sausage for almost two decades. He offers his products provincial wide and in three locations in British Columbia. Wes’ Country Meats and Sausage has a variety of fresh frozen meats and seafood. Horvath himself is a gourmet sausage butcher, offering five different kinds.
“You really do have to stop in and experience it yourself and see what we offer here,” says Ford.
