Dave Klassen has always been interested in landscaping and irrigation, and over five years ago he opened his own business, Kleen Slate Landscaping.
“I wanted to be my own boss, so I could spend more time with my family, and I wanted to show my boys that you can work for yourself, get ahead in life, and do what you love,” says Klassen.
Recently, the business owner received an email from Grace Evans, Digital Service Squad Member for Community Futures Chinook. Digital Service Squad is a free resource in Southeast Alberta that assists businesses in creating a larger online presence by offering advice, skills, tools, and building websites.
It’s always been in the back of Klassen’s mind to create a website for his business, but the timing wasn’t always right. After reading the email from Evans, he knew he had to take advantage of the support.
“Having Grace’s help was the biggest stress relief ever. Once you realize what resources are there to help your business, you don’t feel so alone. You don’t feel like it’s just you against the world. There are people there to help, and it was nice to be reminded of that when Grace reached out,” says Klassen.
Evans designed a website for Klassen. Along with building the website, Evans taught Klassen how to use the website and how to add and change different features.
“I almost cried — that’s the truth. It was so heartwarming. The way she designed it really represented who I am and what my business offers. It was 100% on point, and it brought back so many memories. Opening the business was a dream come true, and the website has now made it so much better.
“The whole experience was nothing less than amazing.”
