Born-and-raised residents in Southeast Alberta become new business owners with support from Community Futures Chinook

Isaak and April Friesen opened Bullzeye Mechanical in 2022, an agricultural mobile mechanic business with a focus on quality services at an affordable price. The two locals were born and raised in the area. Both with farmer family backgrounds, the agriculture industry is a special place for them, and they would like to see it thrive.

We wanted to provide an opportunity for farmers to have quality service at an economical rate. Since we’re mobile, we’re here to serve agriculture communities 24/7 with on-site diagnostic services and repairs,” says Isaak.

We’re excited to be involved in the agriculture sector in this way. It really is home for us,” says April.

The two received financial and marketing support from Community Futures Chinook, with the help of Alvaro Mendes, business analyst, and Grace Evans, digital service squad team member. The Friesen’s say the support was helpful being first time business owners.

Alvaro had answers for every question we had along the way. He’s very knowledgeable. We put together many things for us to use as a guideline and continue to reference throughout the years. Having his help to begin with will help us with a lot of things down the road,” says April.

We received financial support to help us get off the ground, which is essential. You can’t open a business without it — it’s been a pivotal part of the process. We’ve attained knowledge from Alvaro and Grace too, and having the accessibility of phoning them when we have questions has been huge and will continue to be a supporting role,” says Isaak.

They both said the process to apply and receive support through Community Futures Chinook has been painless. Receiving digital marketing support from Evans was instrumental in their advertising. The Friesen’s say owning a business has been a change in pace, but it’s been an interesting adventure they’re excited to continue.
